Community Involvement

Plateau Electric Cooperative is far more than just installing new electric poles and running new lines. Hooking up new homes and businesses, repairing existing lines, rebuilding lines after storm damages, clearing rights-of-way — that’s all a big part of what we do. But you’ll also see us at the annual Christmas parades in Oneida and Wartburg, hosting meetings of the chambers of commerce in Scott and Morgan counties, hanging municipal Christmas decorations, and so much more. We’re community-minded because we’re a part of this community.

WASHINGTON YOUTH TOUR: Each year, Plateau Electric Cooperative sponsors a short story contest for high school juniors on the subject of electricity and its importance to our communities. Winners from high schools in Scott and Morgan counties are invited to participate in the annual Washington Youth Tour in the nation’s capital.

Ad Valorem payments represent taxes on Plateau Electric Cooperative’s investments in power lines, buildings, equipment and other facilities needed to distribute electricity to our members. Plateau Electric Cooperative is the largest taxpayer in Scott County and the second-largest taxpayer in Morgan County.

Students visit Nashville and get to meet with representatives.  They learn about the involvement of the cooperatives at the state level and how government works.
